
































Elisavet Nika is the co-founder and Managing Director of COVARIANCE P.C. a fast-growing start-up, (awarded as best startup company from the Ecosystem 2022 and Best InsurTech 2023 from Startupper awards 2023) specializing in health and insurance sectors, which managed to grow very quickly and stand out by offering advanced analytics & AI services and products to insurance companies and healthcare providers. Covariance develops innovative applications and tools that respond to the problems and needs of both healthcare and insurance sectors. She has worked in private and Public Organizations as a finance executive, in Greece and abroad. Leveraging her scientific and work expertise and strong motivation and determination in 2019 she co-founded Covariance PC, that has already completed three successful spin offs in innovative products, strategic partnerships with multinational companies, and has completed the development and launching of three innovative applications for the private insurance sector.She is a member of the coordinating committee of women’s’ sector of the International Chamber of Commerce of Greece (ICC Women), in the cluster of Female Founders' startups, actively engaged in the empowerment and elevation of female entrepreneurship. She is an Economist, a PhD candidate in the Department of Business Administration at the university of Piraeus. She has presented several aspects of her research work at prestigious scientific conferences in Greece and internationally.
Konstantinos Koutsopoulos is the Chief Product Officer at Covariance, specializing in medical informatics with over 20 years of experience in the design and implementation of healthcare solutions. He has held executive positions in multinational and Greek companies such as PaxeraHealth, Papapostolou Medical S.A., and SingularLogic, and has made significant contributions to hospital digital transformation projects both in Greece and abroad. He holds an MSc in Hospital Information Systems from Middlesex University and a BSc in Artificial Intelligence from Essex University. He has been awarded for innovative applications in the healthcare sector and has participated in international conferences with scientific publications.
Anastasios Ioannidis has participated in many successful projects related to the development and implementation of technological solutions in web development, digital media management, and financial technology. He possesses a skill set with proficiency in both frontend and backend technologies such as Vue.js, React, and Angular, as well as programming languages like JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, PHP, and others, while he has also led developer teams. He studied Chemical Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki before professionally engaging in software development. At COVARIANCE, Anastasios Ioannidis is the Head of the Software Development Dpt.
Efstathios Kaloutsidis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer and Informatics Engineering. He has accumulated over six years of work experience in various companies, including more than five years in multinational corporations, where he contributed as a BI Engineer and Data Engineer. He has considerable business knowledge, especially in the Finance and Telecommunications sectors. His expertise is in designing and developing innovative solutions that utilize the power of data to foster business success. With extensive experience in data modeling, ETL processes, data analysis, and data visualization, he has a solid track record of delivering high-quality, scalable data solutions that satisfy diverse business needs. Currently, he is the Head of the Data Engineering Department at COVARIANCE, where he aids clients in building robust data pipelines ready to support AI solutions.
Georgios Vlassis is a member of data management and data analysis team at Covariance PC. He is a graduate of the Mathematics Department of the University of Crete. He also holds a postgraduate certificate in Actuarial Science from the City University of London (PGCert) as well as a training certificate in data analysis from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has an over 15 years’ working experience in the Greek Insurance industry in large companies as a member of their life technical divisions, performing various and significant actuarial analysis tasks and as a business analyst working in the financial and technical reporting field. In Covariance P.C., he is involved in various projects aimed at the insurance sector, accomplishing business studies, data management and other reporting tasks.
"John Bertolis is a Biostatistician with a BSc from the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science from University of Piraeus and a MSc in Applied Statistics with specialization in Biostatistics, Statistical Process Control and Social Science Statistics. He has participated in several national projects and has extensive experience in designing and conducting health and social surveys, statistical analysis of clinical trials and biosurveillance reports. His research interests encompass a broad array of subjects including, but not limited to, real-world evidence (RWE) analysis, survival analysis, and longitudinal data analysis, as well as the use AI in the Healthcare Industry. "
Apostolos Karnavas holds a Bsc degree in Informatics and Telecommunications from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He has done research work in the field of biotechnology as part of the Laboratory of Food Microbiology and Biotechnology in Agricultural University of Athens and has developed a solid understanding of data analysis procedures and machine learning. He has been working with Covariance as a Software Developer for more than two years building systems that integrate machine learning and data analytics for various applications.
Michaela Kerasioti completed her studies as a Web Designer & Developer a decade ago. Since then, she has worked on a wide variety of projects, from the creation, monitoring and maintenance of new websites to the development of software solutions to unique problems. Michaela has a passion for continuous improvement as technology advances. She is a motivated software engineer with a can-do attitude, always excited to offer her diverse experience to solve new complex problems.
Marantos Lampros is an experienced software engineer, with knowlegde of several prgramming languages (C++ , C , C#, JAVA, KOTLIN , JAVASCRIPT), web design and technologies of web development (HTML5, CSS, JAVASCRIPT), databases (SQL and others) as well as applications in mobile enviroment (Android). He has a degree in computer science (from the University Of Piraeus), a certificate related with Artificial Intelligence (Introduction to Artificial Intelligence) as well as a certificate in Introduction to Big Data. He has been employed in various job positions, expanding and imporiving his ablilities in JAVA (scientific model simultations, by using tools like Eclipse and NetBeans) as well as developing applications in the Android platform. He is now working on behalf of COVARIANCE CO, developing applications in the Android platform, through the usage of Kotlin language and many relevant libraries and tools.
"George Ioannou is a junior Software Developer with a degree in Information Systems coming from Technological Educational Institute of West Greece. As of doing his first career steps he gained relevant knowledge and practice on mostly backend developement using Microsoft .NET technologies and frameworks. He has a high interest in cloud technologies especially in Azure which is the native Microsoft cloud infrastracture and is looking forward in getting expertise in this field. He is also interested in getting some hands on experience with Front-end technologies based on the needs of the company."
Konstantinos Spyropoulos is a Front-End Developer currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus. With a strong foundation in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript, Konstantinos has gained practical experience through various academic projects and personal initiatives. He has proficiency in using frameworks such as Angular, and is skilled in tools like Git, npm and Webpack. Additionally, Konstantinos has a solid understanding of Python and data analysis, further enhancing his versatility as a developer. His dedication to creating dynamic and user-friendly web applications is complemented by his knowledge of UI/UX design. Konstantinos is eager to apply his technical expertise and creative problem-solving skills to contribute to innovative web development projects.
Katerina Skamnia is a Data Scientist. She holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Patras and a master’s degree in Computational and Statistical Data Analytics (Department of Mathematics, University of Patras). Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the University of Patras. Her research interests include, among others, data analysis and pattern recognition in multidimensional data and time series. Furthermore, she serves as a teaching assistant in lab courses including Statistics-Probabilities and Programming. She possesses skills in programming (R, Python, Matlab), deep statistical knowledge and database programming (SQL DBs).
Nikolaos Rokakis works as a data scientist at Covariance. He is a graduate of Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA), in which he emphasized in courses in quantitative methods. After the fulfilling his military obligations, he completed his MSc studies at Applied Statistics at the University of Piraeus (UNIPI). Currently, he is a PhD candidate in the Department of Organization and Business Administration Piraeus University. Before taking on the role of data scientist at Covariance, he worked as a customer analytics analyst at the National Bank of Greece (NBG).
Panagiotis C. Theocharopoulos is a Data Scientist, utilizing Computational Intelligence methods. He is also a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Thessaly, specializing in Artificial Intelligence. He holds a Master's degree in "Informatics and Computational Biomedicine" from the University of Thessaly, with a minor in "Computational Medicine and Biology," as well as a Bachelor degree from the same department. Additionally, he serves as an Academic Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Thessaly, where he teaches various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He is a scientific advisor to the Department of Physiology at the Medical School of the University of Thessaly. He has participated in EU-funded research projects, and his research interests encompass several areas, including statistical machine learning models, deep learning, big data processing and analysis, natural language processing, and large language models.
Katerina Oulani is a Junior Data Scientist in the field of health data analytics and machine learning. She has previously gained valuable experience through her academic backrground and internship, contributing to diverse projects that involve data analysis and predictive modeling. Her primary area of interest lies in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, particularly in applying these technologies to address challenges in the health sector. Currently, she is actively involved in various projects, continuously enhancing her expertise in statistical analysis and data science. She holds a master's degree in Applied Statistics from the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science at the University of Piraeus and a bachelor's degree in Statistics and Insurance Science from the University of Piraeus.
Anatoli Galiatsatou is a Junior Data Scientist with a focus on Health Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Anatoli holds a master's degree in Applied Statistics from the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science at the University of Piraeus and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During her studies, she developed a strong foundation in statistical analysis and mathematical modeling, which she now applies to her work in data science. Anatoli has gained practical experience through academic projects, where she honed her skills in data preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, and the development of machine and deep learning models.
Thekla Aggeletou is a data scientist with a BSc in Mathematics. Her strong mathematical background and her passion for research and data analytics led her to transits smoothly to the field of Data Science and Biostatistics. She is also passionate about designing and participating in research programs and developing and implementing internal and external communications procedures.
Sotiris Tasoulis is a ML/AI consultant. He has received his diploma in Mathematics and his MSc in Mathematics of Computers and Decision Making from the University of Patras. In 2013 he received his PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics of the University of Thessaly in Greece. In the same year he joined Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT) and Department of Computer Science of the University of Helsinki in Finland as a post-doctoral researcher in “Knowledge Discovery in Big Data”. Next in September 2015 Sotiris was assigned as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) with topic “Applied Mathematics” at the School of Computing and Mathematics of Liverpool John Moores University in UK. In June 2019 he was assigned Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics of the University of Thessaly, with topic “Knowledge Mining in Big Data”. His research focuses on the development of Statistical approaches able to cope with the central challenges associated with Data Analysis, and in particular Big Data, while he teaches courses on Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning. On many occasions Dr. Tasoulis has collaborated with the industry as a consultant in real world Machine Learning and Big Data applications.
Spiros V. Georgakopoulos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Thessaly, specializing in "Machine Learning: Foundations and Applications." His research interests include applications in machine learning, computer vision, bioinformatics, fraud detection in medical prescriptions, and real-world problem-solving. He has developed novel learning algorithms for Convolutional Neural Networks, innovative algorithms for lesion detection in medical imaging, and robust methods for human pose recognition. Dr. Georgakopoulos has served as a consultant to the President of the Hellenic National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY). His scientific publications include sixteen journal papers and over twenty-five international conference papers. His work has received more than 800 citations. Additionally, he has participated in more than ten research programs funded by national and European sources as a researcher and/or deputy principal investigator.
Charis Michelakis is a Junior Data Scientist with an expertise in the field of Fraud Detection in Auto Insurance. In the past he has also had some professional experience as a Data Analyst focusing on the creation of automation tools for data wrangling and visualization purposes. He holds a Master's degree in Applied Statistics from the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science of The University of Piraeus, achieving a grade of "Excellent" and his master thesis involved Fraud detection in Auto Insurance Using Unsupervised Machine Learning Techniques. He also holds a Master's degree in Finance and Banking from the Athens University of Economics and Business, also achieving a grade of "Excellent", during which he specialized in Econometrics and its applications. His Bachelor's Degree is in Political Science and Public Administration from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he specialized on various aspects of Economics.
Loukas Liatopoulos is a result-driven professional software engineer with over ten years of experience from Greece, working in web development and project management with various types of administrative capacities. Proven ability to successfully complete required deliverables on time, including building good professional relationships at all levels. Proficient in many tools and technologies, including Visual Studio, SQL Server, solutions related to MT4, and Microsoft Dynamics. He has been through various well-thought-of organizations, which have proven his ability to adapt quickly and perform well in the face of challenging tasks, whether individually or as part of a team.
Dr. Bersimis Sotirios is a Professor at the University of Piraeus, where he has been contributing his academic expertise since 2010. He holds a PhD in Statistics and Probability from the University of Piraeus' Department of Statistics and Insurance Science, an MSc in Statistics from Athens University of Economics and Business, and a BSc in Statistics and Insurance Science from the University of Piraeus. Dr. Sotirios' research primarily focuses on the development and application of stochastic models for process monitoring, as well as the theory of runs and patterns. He specializes in advanced data analytics in health and insurance using statistical machine learning techniques. He has authored over 80 papers in international scientific journals, peer-reviewed volumes, and conference proceedings, and his work has been presented at more than 150 conferences, including over 100 international ones. His published work has garnered over 2270 citations internationally.
Vasileios Karampelas is a Data Scientist with a degree from the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Piraeus and an MSc in Cybersecurity and Data Science, specializing in Business Analytics and Big Data. He has participated in several academic European projects focused on managing and processing big data, conducting statistical analyses, and extracting actionable insights, with the ultimate goal of recommending data-driven actions and policies. His research interests span a wide range of topics, including the optimization of spatiotemporal data, destination categorization in the tourism industry, and the application of emerging technologies in the defense sector.
Nikolas Michailidis is a Junior Data Scientist with a strong foundation in mathematics and hands-on experience in data analysis, visualization and machine learning. He holds a Master’s degree in Data Science from the University of East London and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of the Aegean. Nikolas is proficient in Python and SQL and is skilled in using data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau. He has also completed a Data Analyst Bootcamp through Workearly, further strengthening his practical skills.He has worked on multiple projects where he applied machine learning models to uncover insights, detect patterns and support data-driven decision-making across various domains.
Chrysanna Kallari is a data scientist with expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, and deep learning. Her work focuses on predictive modeling, time series forecasting, and optimization, with emphasis on developing AI-driven methods for decision-making and forecasting applications. She holds a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Computational and Statistical Data Science from the University of Patras, where she is currently pursuing a PhD on machine and deep learning models. Prior to joining Covariance, she conducted research at FORTH/ICE-HT, where she applied data science and AI methods in Greek and European projects on environmental remediation.

He holds a master's degree in Cyber Security and Data Science from the Department of Informatics at the University of Piraeus and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During his studies, he built a solid foundation in data analysis, machine learning, and algorithmic thinking, which he now applies to his work in data science. Theodoros Giannopoulos is a Data Scientist and PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Thessaly, working in the Intelligent Systems Laboratory, which focuses on advanced research in Artificial Intelligence and computational intelligence methods. Panagiotis Biris is a data scientist with a strong academic background in statistics and applied analytics. He completed both his BSc in Statistics and Insurance Science and his MSc in Applied Statistics at the University of Piraeus. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Patras, with research focusing on multivariate analysis and optimization of machine learning algorithms. His interests include high-dimensional data, pattern discovery, and complex data relationships. He has published two scientific papers and delivered oral presentations at two international and two Hellenic conferences. With nearly three years of experience in the maritime sector, he now applies his expertise in the healthcare and insurance domains.
Alkiviadis Theodorou is a Junior Developer currently studying Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus. He has experience in both front-end and back-end development, working with C# and .NET on the server side, and Angular (TypeScript), HTML, and CSS on the client side. He is passionate about creating clean, efficient, and user-friendly applications, while continuously improving his technical skills.
